The most important question being asked in the Middle East today is not about who will succeed Emile Lahoud as Lebanon's president, as the Lebanese tend to think; it is rather about whether the Bush administration will deal a military strike to the Iranian nuclear facilities or not.
There is an agreement on the fact that the strike, should it be deal with, will be through missiles and intensive air raids. However, there is a considerable disagreement about whether it should happen or not. Some people say the blow is most likely to be struck, others wish the blow would be struck, and a third group oppose it or do not want to see it materialize.
Perhaps the most accurate talk I heard about Iran, the United States, and the potential military confrontation was by Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Sheikh Khaled Bin Ahmad Bin Mohammad. He said that if a military blow is delivered to Iran we will pay the price as well. However, should America and Iran reach an agreement, it will be done at the expense of our interests. We should consider the least harmful option to Arab countries: an American military strike or an American-Iranian agreement.
I am aware of the Persian greed in the Islamic Republic that history has not curtailed. I fully understand the anxiety on the part of neighboring countries over Iran's intentions. Yet, as an Arab citizen expressing his views freely, I say that I strongly oppose any American or other strike against Iran. I content myself with presenting a single major reason for my opposition. Indeed, those leading the campaign for the strike against Iran are famous enemies of the Arabs and Muslims altogether; they belong to the Israeli cabal that will sacrifice the United States itself to impose Israeli hegemony throughout the Middle East.
The war cabal is led by Vice-president Dick Cheney, though he is not a neoconservatives; he is rather seeking the creation of an American empire that imposes its will worldwide. His ambitions, or dreams, happen to coincide with the neoconservatives' anti-Muslim and anti-Arab plans.
The Godfather of the neoconservatives is the old radical Norman Podhoretz who had written a mean article entitled 'The Case for Bombing Iran: I Hope and Pray that President Bush Will Do It' in the Wall Street Journal on 30/5/2007. In this article the writer enters the world of myth, warns against a new holocaust, and compares Iran with Nazi Germany. I had then referred to this article; therefore I will not go back to it. Nevertheless, I need to note that after returning to London from a trip to the United States, I found on my desk an interview with Podhoretz conducted by a British journalist. In this interview he refers to a meeting he had last summer with President Bush and his assistant Rove. When Podhoretz complained about the futility of giving diplomacy a chance, Bush and Rove burst out laughing, as he claimed, which made him understand that the president was aware of the fact that diplomacy would fail, and as a result, he was preparing for a military strike.
I hope the readers will forget about the Iranian issue for a while and focus with me on the neoconservatives or the Israeli cabal.
Podhoretz believes that Bush will hit Iran by the end of his term. The last book written by this extremist was World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism. His preoccupation is Islam and Muslims, not Iran alone. Norman Podhoretz is married to Midge Decter who is a radical like him. Their daughter Rachel is married to Elliott Abrams, the hero of the Iran Contra affair and Israel's representative to the National Security Council. Podhoretz' son has a purely rightist column in the New York Post and is regularly hosted by Fox News.
There is also David Wurmser who worked with Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith on fabricating the causes of the war on Iraq in the ministry of defense. He also tried his best to draw a link between Saddam Hussein and the terror act of 9/11/2001. Afterwards, he moved to Cheney's office where he occupied the position of 'Middle East expert' but left a month later to go back to the rightist research or cabal centers.
David Wurmser is married to the Israeli Meyrav who came to Washington with the Israeli intelligence officer Igal Ramon in 1996 after the Benjamin Netanayahu's electoral victory. They founded the translation Memri Company that selectively but accurately translates material written by Arab radicals, and distributes its translation to American officials and to the rest of the world.
Douglas Feith is the son of Dalck Feith, and the Zionist organization decorated them with a medal for the services they rendered to Israel. Now there is Daniel Pipes, the manager of Monitoring Islamist Media and the son of Richard Pipes whose extremism was manifested as he held the position of advisor to Ronald Reagan. In addition to these, there is Michael Ledeen who has always asked for striking Iran. We are still trying to know whether he played a role in falsifying the Niger papers in Rome where he worked at some time, and consequently the American intelligence considered him an Israeli agent.
Since I am still talking about 'honorable families', I need to mention Donald Kagan, the radical professor who has two sons, Robert and Frederick, with similar inclinations. The latter is the author of the study 'Choosing Victory: A Plan for Success in Iraq' on the basis of which George Bush decided to increase the number of American forces in Iraq.
The room is getting smaller to list a hundred names, but I choose out of them Irving Kristol, the editor-in-chief of Commentary magazine at the time. He married Gertrude Himmelfarb who gave birth to William, the editor-in-chief of The Weekly Standard, the neoconservatives' mouthpiece.
All these are not simply the enemies of Iran, but they are also the enemies of the Arabs and Muslims altogether. Many of them were condemned for leaking confidential information to Israel, but then they went back to governmental positions and signed letters sent to Bill Clinton and George Bush requesting an attack on Iraq. Today they are targeting Iran.
