Arab Blood Runs Cheap
Mohamed Ashab Al-Hayat - 01/08/06//
The notion of benevolence, which accompanied the establishment of the State of Israel, is like a mother's feelings for her naughty child. She will accept anything from it. Moreover, this child can set fire to the land and people without being punished by the mother. For the first time, a ceasefire has become problematic to the great USA, because it does not want it. Israel and the US see that the ugly massacres, condemned by the whole world, are simply political arrangements in the region. This means that all the pretexts of the war are false. Thus, the Israeli war machine's plan had already been prepared for, and Israel waited for the opportunity. It does not matter that innocent civilians are the only people who are paying the price. It is no problem that the worthless bodies of the Arab elderly, and of women and children, who have nothing to do with the fighting, are used as firewood. It is a fact that the two Israeli soldiers were captured for the extermination of a whole nation and for the massacre of innocent people in Qana. It is to be regretted that the Security Council did not call a spade a spade. It joined the spectators of the tragedy.
Figures are no longer all-embracing. A person will have a far higher value if he is Israeli or American. If he is Lebanese, Palestinian or Iraqi, his value will be ranked the lowest. Days can also be relatively longer. Israel has been given one more week in its war of genocide. Time for Israel means there is no need to rush, since other people are the victims and global values do not apply. In the crisis with Iran, the days do count. A response to the proposals put forward to Tehran should be accelerated. Otherwise, the whole file will be taken to the Security Council. In Lebanon, the Council, however, gives Israel the time it wants because it wages war on behalf of others. Whether the time factor entails strength or weakness depends on the influence of a given country. The Americans, as well as the Israelis, created the facts that prohibit their soldiers from being punished if they commit crimes against humanity. Laws are violated to honor US soldiers abroad. This has made it possible for Israel to easily emulate this model, though in a cruder way.
There is no difference between Guantanamo prison and Israel's prisons and between the shelters in Amiriyah and Qana - Arab blood is one and the same: it runs cheap. During the decades of the Arab-Israeli conflict, international resolutions concerning Israel were always rejected. Whereas Arab parties were decisively and enthusiastically compelled to show commitment to similar resolutions that were put into effect. It is the conception of relativity, just as there is relativity of Time and homelands.
This humanitarian and political discrimination has led to frustration. There is a need to depend on one's self in determining one's interests and developing one's capabilities. The fact that has become clear is not that there is a complete bias toward the Israeli State. Rather, the fact is that Lebanon cannot be prosperous or democratic unless it has the power for confrontation. Then the country will no longer be a battlefield for others. The instances of resilience shown by the Lebanese make it clear that they can not be subdued. The outrage of the Lebanese people, after former PM Rafiq al-Hariri's murder, put an end to more than one illusion. Their firm political and social stance in face of the arrangements that propagated the proxy war means that they were not deceived by the efforts aimed to divide them. Therefore, Lebanon's enemies are outside, not inside its borders. Time helps one to realize the potential power of a united nation. And the current ordeal is a test of a true will to live on the ruins of death.
