Hillary and Ahmadinejad: Two Faces of the Same Coin!
Jameel Theyabi Al-Hayat - 29/04/08//
The Arab world, as we all know, abounds with quasi-"imbecile" politicians and their pseudo-heroisms - particularly those who love to take to the stage and arouse the people with speeches that further their interests and not their peoples'. Leaders whose slogans do not last till the next day; leaders whose words do not stand the test of time and dwindle at the first inevitable confrontation with the truth.
Leaders who do not say a word when the enemy's planes fly above their castles and heads but are not embarrassed to call others cowards and themselves "brave." Leaders who negotiate secretly and say out loud the opposite of what they do.
The habit of roaring in the Middle East has reached the United States, where Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton tells her supporters she will "wipe off Iran completely if it launches a nuclear attack on Israel." This is a "candid" response to Ahmadinejad's statement that he will wipe Israel off the world map.
Mrs. Clinton and her peers must remember that Iran does not only consist of Ahmadinejad and his likes, but of a humane people with a culture, history, and geography - a people entitled to live in peace and security with no threat of annihilation.
Did Clinton have to threaten to wipe off Iran in order to satisfy a Zionist lobby inside the United States, in a language no different than that of Al Qaeda, its explosives and threatening tapes?!
Hillary is a candidate for running the American people's affairs. Anything she says now will affect her future policy. If she becomes president, the world will look at her as an extremist whose policy is no different than Ahmadinejad's slogans and "blunders."
Such "Hillarian" threats made against a state and a people are no different than the previously resounding speeches of "hung" Iraqi president Saddam Hussein against imperialism and Israel. They are no different than the former Iraqi president's threats to resort to nonexistent nuclear capacities. They are even similar to Osama bin Laden, when he orders his terrorist "Al Qaeda" to sow death everywhere amongst innocent old people, women, and children.
What is the difference between he who threatens to hijack airplanes, crash into skyscrapers, and kill civilians, and he who threatens to wipe off countries and kill innocent people? Isn't the end result the same?! Such statements and threats made by political leaders endanger international security and stability and pave the way for new troubles. They also indicate that extremism exists in the minds of leaders as much as it does in Al Qaeda's ideology. In other words, terrorist operations are on the rise due to "heroic" politics and threats that target the people.
The control of such minds over the policies of countries and the lives of people constitutes a modern crisis. These "raw" statements and threats - although they stem from different reasons - are two faces of the same coin: intimidation and terrorism.
When Admiral Ali Shamkhani, the military advisor to Iran's supreme leader, threatened to attack US bases as well as oil refineries and power generation plants in the Gulf countries, the people of the Gulf were discontented. But would this justify counter threats and statements that would ignite wars all around the world and let terrorism and extremism replace diplomacy, peaceful coexistence, and human interaction? I do not doubt for a second that Ahmadinejad's speeches and policies are leading his people towards hardship and a stricter siege. But Hillary is committing the same mistake, as she heralds the birth of a new Ahmadinejad with a new extremist mentality based on hegemony and threats.
The likes of Ahmadinejad and Clinton enable extremists and terrorists to mount further terrorist operations for political purposes, which leads to endless anguish. Hence, such leaders are not fit to lead nations and peoples that dream of peace.
